As an experienced Person-Centered therapist I work with a set of skills and attitudes that honor the uniqueness and autonomy of each client. Rather than offering treatment programs based on diagnostic labels, I work in a way that responds to an individual's personal experiencing of their world and the meanings it holds for them. At the core of this way of working lies the belief that each person knows within himself or herself what is required for their own development and self-actualization, though our life circumstances and conditioning often conspire to throw us off balance and tie us in knots, resulting in us not being able to trust and rely on our own inner resources. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed in other ways, negatively affecting our quality of life and ability to manage well in our personal circumstances. Person-Centered Therapy is an effective way of beginning to untangle these knots and move towards becoming more fulfilled, self-directed and independent individuals. The therapeutic space I provide is a safe and confidential environment that facilitates self-exploration and allows the client to express themselves more openly, more fully and more deeply as the counselling process progresses. It is a process of discovery and personal insight, which may often be challenging as we confront aspects of our lives that we find difficult and distressing. Ultimately, as we begin to understand our moods and motivations more clearly, beginning to integrate new insights and new aspects of ourselves into our personality, we begin the process of moving towards greater self-compassion, self-acceptance and healing.

I live in Cornwall, UK, where I run a private counselling practice. I am also an Online Therapist certified by the Online Therapy Institute (OTI). I have previously spent many years counselling in the voluntary sector, gaining training and experience in addictions counselling and undertaking grief-work with the bereavement charity CRUSE. Having found that my previous career choice lacked the sense of personal meaning that I was seeking, I decided to retrain in a role that would satisfy my need to connect with society and myself in a more profound way. Prior to this decision, I had begun to recognise the deep, transformational experiences that arose out of encountering others in a spirit of openness and authenticity, and became engaged in reading widely across the literature on self-discovery and the human condition. This led to discovering my vocation as a humanistic therapist and an enduring engagement with the examined life. In my work as a counsellor, I find it a profound privilege to give witness to the clients experiencing of their world and the changes occurring for them as they move forward in the process of self-actualisation. As well as finding counselling work personally rewarding, I have an absolute belief in the positive value of the profession and what it can offer to individuals and society. As such, I am committed to the high ethical and professional standards required of effective practitioners, such as those stipulated by my governing body, the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), which include undertaking regular professional supervision and continuing professional development.
