Your reason for seeking out therapy is unique to you, but in the end, what brings anyone to therapy is the sense that life feels difficult in some way. I offer the supportive space in which to think about the issues that may be adversely impacting on your life and why you are feeling as you do. With this increased understanding of yourself, comes the opportunity to change how you respond to life in a way that really helps you to get your needs met and move your life on. My philosophical leaning and my learning is from the Humanistic school. What that means is that I believe in our capacity, as individuals, to improve our lot in life. We are not powerless to change things, even if we think the die has been cast. It’s an optimistic and empowering philosophy that can be utterly transformative. It may help you in your search for a therapist to know that, in the end, whatever the skill set or experience of the therapist, all the evidence shows that the key to change lies in the therapeutic relationship. In other words, if you don’t feel comfortable with your therapist, if you don’t feel like they “get you”, then therapy is very unlikely to be effective, so it’s vitally important that you find the right person for you (even if it's not me!).

Before I entered the world of therapy, I had a couple of other lives, starting my working life as a lawyer, before moving onto a successful career in documentary television, which culminated in me working as a Commissioning Editor at Channel Four. The same curiosity about the human condition that underpinned my life in TV, is the same curiosity that led me to re-train in psychotherapy. I think that my own professional background puts me in a unique position to understand the pressures that people can experience when trying to deal with challenging personal issues whilst also holding their head above water in demanding work environments.
