Join us as we celebrate the launch of Swirl – an uncomplicated, empowering guide to overcoming overthinking.

The event will be an opportunity to discover the story behind Swirl along with practical takeaways in the guide from Dr Barbara Mariposa & illustrator Nate Kitch. Introduced by project creator and community mental health nurse Andy Walton, we aim to facilitate an empowering and inspiring discussion around Swirl’s content and the process of managing worry and rumination in modern times. Dr Barbara Mariposa will be sharing her insights into mindfulness alongside delivering a guided practice, whilst Nate Kitch will detail the rationale and approach behind his illustrations before providing an informal opportunity to engage in collage making. All attendees will receive a copy of Swirl within their ticket price.

ANDY WALTON is a Newcastle-based community psychiatric nurse for leading military veteran charity Combat Stress.

NATE KITCH is an award-winning illustrator with regular work in The Guardian, as well as clients from around the world.

DR. BARBARA MARIPOSA is a medical doctor with a background in psychiatry and public health. She now works as an event leader, organisational consultant and author in the fields of mindfulness, emotion mastery, leadership, corporate performance and mental wellbeing.

Running order:

Swirl creator and mental health nurse Andy Walton talks about why he started the project, the motivation and lived experience behind the content. How the project is twenty years in the making and the positives that can come through the recovery process.

Introduction to mindfulness and a guided practice delivered by Dr. Barbara Mariposa

We will hear a reading of Swirl.

What works for you when it comes to managing worry and rumination? Group discussion.
