It's a match! Finding the right therapist for you
8:00 am - 9:00 am EST
The Rose Lipman Building 43 De Beauvoir Rd
London, N1 5SQ
Finding the right counsellor or therapist can be a minefield, especially for those in the queer community who will want to know that their therapist understands the issues that confront them. There are a variety professional titles to choose from (counsellor, psychotherapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist), and there are scores of different kinds of therapy too (psychodynamic, CBT, client-centred, etc.). Probably most important is that there’s a good match between you and your therapist.
The world of therapy and mental health can seem quite alienating, and we would like to make it more familiar. We have asked three therapists and a psychiatrist who have experience working within the queer community to reflect together about what potential clients should be looking out for, what questions they may ask, and anything else they would like to share. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion so we can break down the barriers to understanding the complicated world of mental health professionals.
This event is a partnership between The Love Tank CIC and Stillpoint Spaces London and the panel consists of Dr. Khaldoon Ahmed (psychiatrist), Jane Czyzselska (psychotherapist), Janice Acquah (psychotherapist), Pretish Raja-Helm (psychotherapist), and will be chaired by Dr. Aaron Balick (psychotherapist).
This event is part of The Love Tank's Love Hub at Fringe! Film Fest 2019.
